Bio

My name is Phillip Trussell and I have devoted over two decades to teaching English and coaching various sports, shaping the lives of young people across Alabama. My journey in education began after graduating from Auburn University Montgomery with a degree in Secondary Education/Language Arts. Later, I earned a Masters of Liberal Arts from the same institution, deepening my knowledge and expertise in English and the humanities.

My career has taken me to several schools, including Prattville High School, Floyd Middle Magnet School, Tallassee High School, Wetumpka High School, and Samford Middle School. Throughout these years, I’ve taught English to students from 7th to 12th grade, covering both standard and honors classes, creative writing, and even ACT preparation. I take pride in helping students find their voice through writing and literature, guiding them to become more confident and articulate individuals.

In addition to teaching, I’ve been passionate about coaching soccer. I’ve led teams at various levels, from freshmen boys and junior varsity boys here at Prattville High School to U8 and U12 youth teams with the Capital City Streaks. My coaching experience also extends to track and cross-country teams, where I’ve enjoyed helping students achieve their personal bests and develop a love for sports.

My involvement in education goes beyond the classroom and the field. During my time at Auburn University Montgomery, I served as a Resident Assistant, where I was responsible for overseeing and mentoring fellow students. I also took on the role of Youth Director at Faith Presbyterian Church, organizing Bible studies, activities, and trips for the youth group.

Throughout my career, I’ve received several awards and recognitions, starting from my high school years at Saint James High School, where I was nominated for the Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award and received the Melanie McLendon Award for chorus. These early achievements laid the foundation for my lifelong commitment to excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities.

Looking back, I am proud of the impact I’ve made on the lives of my students and athletes. My experiences have taught me the value of dedication, perseverance, and the importance of fostering a positive environment for learning and growth. I continue to look forward to new challenges and opportunities to inspire the next generation.
